Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo — Complete 2026 Guide
The Dubai Aquarium sits in the middle of Dubai Mall behind a glass panel so massive it was certified by Guinness as the world's largest acrylic viewing panel (32.88 m × 8.3 m). Behind that glass: 10 million liters of water, 140 species, 33,000 aquatic animals, and one of the calmest sand tiger shark populations anywhere in the world. A basic entry ticket costs $50 per adult when booked through TripUAE.

Location: Ground floor, Dubai Mall
Opening hours: 10:00 – 00:00 (until midnight)
Tank size: 10 million liters

What You Get with the Ticket
There are several ticket levels. Here is what each includes:
Basic Entry — $50 adult / $40 child
- Walk through the 48-meter underwater tunnel (the highlight — you are surrounded by sharks and rays on all sides)
- Access to the Underwater Zoo on level 2 (penguins, otters, piranhas, Nile crocodile King Croc, reptiles)
- Rainforest and Living Ocean zones
Explorer Experience — $65 adult / $50 child
- Everything in Basic

VIP Experience — $95 adult / $80 child

- Plus Glass Bottom Boat Ride across the top of the main tank
- Plus Cage Snorkeling option (additional fee)
If this is your first visit, Basic is enough. The underwater tunnel is the main event and it is included in every ticket level.
The Main Tank — What You'll See
The aquarium's headline exhibit is visible for free from inside Dubai Mall. Walk past it once, and you'll understand why hundreds of people stand around every day just watching. But seeing it from outside is one experience. Walking through the tunnel below is another.
Inside the tank:
- Sand tiger sharks (around 40 individuals — the largest single population in captivity)
- Sawfish (there are only a handful of places in the world where you can see sawfish this close)
- Giant groupers (some over 300 kg)
- Stingrays and eagle rays (watch the bottom of the tunnel — they glide directly overhead)
- Grouper species, jacks, and several shark species — bamboo, zebra, blacktip reef
The tunnel itself is 48 meters long and takes 10–15 minutes to walk slowly. A travelator is optional — stand still and let the view come to you, or step off and linger.
Underwater Zoo — The Second Floor
Most visitors make the mistake of spending 20 minutes downstairs, seeing the tunnel, and leaving. The Underwater Zoo upstairs is actually bigger than the main tank experience. Three zones:
Rainforest — piranhas, electric eels, giant salamanders, and one of the aquarium's stars: King Croc, a 5-meter Nile crocodile weighing 750 kg. He is usually lying perfectly still, which is more unsettling than if he moved.
Rocky Shore — penguins (Gentoo and King species), Asian small-clawed otters, fur seals. The otters are the crowd favorite — active, loud, and impossibly charming.
Living Ocean — reef tanks with clownfish, seahorses, lionfish, jellyfish, and octopuses. Smaller exhibits but well-curated.
Plan for at least 45 minutes upstairs. Kids will want longer.
When to Visit
Best time of day: Weekday mornings (10:00–12:00) or late evening (after 21:00). The aquarium stays open until midnight, and by 22:00 most tourist families have left. You can walk through an empty tunnel — a very different experience.
Feeding times are usually 14:00 and 16:00 daily. Check the schedule at the entrance. Watching sharks fed at close range is worth adjusting your day for.
Avoid: Saturday afternoons and UAE public holidays. The mall is packed and the aquarium will be too.
Practical Tips
- Free preview: The main tank is visible from inside Dubai Mall at ground level, free of charge. You do not need a ticket to see it from outside — only to go through the tunnel and visit the Underwater Zoo.
- Photography: Allowed. Flash is not recommended (it reflects off the glass and spooks the animals).
- Strollers: Allowed in the tunnel and zoo. Fully accessible.
- Time needed: Plan 2 hours if you want to see everything properly. 90 minutes is the bare minimum.
Combining with Other Dubai Mall Attractions
Since the aquarium is inside Dubai Mall, you can easily combine it with:
- KidZania (on the second floor) — role-play city for ages 4–14
- VR Park — huge virtual reality arcade with 30+ experiences
- Dubai Ice Rink — full-size Olympic rink
- Dubai Fountain — free music and water show every 30 minutes in the evening, right outside the mall
For a full family day: aquarium in the morning, lunch in the mall food court, KidZania in the afternoon, Dubai Fountain at sunset.
How the Dubai Aquarium Compares
Versus The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi: Dubai Aquarium is smaller but more famous, and the shark tunnel is better. Abu Dhabi has more fish species (over 46,000 marine animals) but feels less theatrical.
Versus Atlantis Lost Chambers on Palm Jumeirah: Lost Chambers (ticket $60) is themed around the lost city of Atlantis, more atmospheric, with lots of ruin-style exhibits. More interesting design, similar marine life. Our recommendation: see both if you have time. They are genuinely different experiences.
