Desert Safari Dubai — Complete Guide for 2026
The desert safari is the single most popular tour in Dubai — and for good reason. Out of all the tourists we've served over 10+ years at TripUAE, roughly 80% book a desert safari. Not one has regretted it. The Arabian desert starts just 40 minutes from downtown Dubai: the same endless dunes you've seen in movies, except a hundred times more impressive in person. Prices start at $155 for a premium evening safari with dinner, shows, and hotel pickup included.
Most popular: Evening "Sahara" Safari — $155/person
Duration: 6 hours (3 PM – 9 PM)
Includes: Dune bashing, sandboarding, camels, BBQ dinner, shows, henna
Hotel pickup: Yes, included in all options
Best season: October – March (20-30°C)
Kids: Welcome (ages 3+ for dune bashing)
Safety: Licensed drivers, zero incidents in 10+ years
What's Included in a Desert Safari
A standard evening safari isn't just "driving on sand." It's a full evening in the desert:
Dune Bashing — riding a 4x4 over the dunes. The driver accelerates and "dives" off the crests — adrenaline like a roller coaster. Lasts 30-40 minutes. If you get motion sick, just ask the driver to go gentler.
Sandboarding — like snowboarding, but on sand. The UAE dunes are steep enough for speed but soft enough for safe falls.
Camel Ride — a short ride (10-15 minutes), but a camel photo against the sunset is one of the most iconic shots from Dubai.
Desert Camp — tents with carpets, cushions, and Arabian ambiance. This is where you'll spend the rest of the evening.
BBQ Dinner — meat, fish, salads, hummus, Arabic bread, fruit. All unlimited. Vegetarian options available on request.
Entertainment — belly dance, fire show, Tanoura (whirling dervish). Shows happen in the center of the camp while you dine.
Henna & Arabic Dress Photos — get a temporary henna tattoo and take photos in traditional clothing. Included in the price.
Which Safari to Choose
Evening "Sahara" Safari (Recommended)
Our most popular option. Pickup from hotel at 3:00-3:30 PM, return around 9:00 PM.
Included: transfer, dune bashing, sandboarding, camels, camp, dinner, shows, henna, shisha.
Price: $155 per person
Why "Sahara": premium 4x4 vehicles, smaller groups, more time on the dunes, better-organized dinner.
Morning Safari (No Dinner)
For those who want adrenaline without the dinner program. Pickup at 8:00-9:00 AM, back by lunch. Dune bashing + sandboarding + camels.
Perfect if you have evening plans.
Buggy Safari in Abu Dhabi
Not a 4x4 — an open buggy. You're driving. 3-4 hours of pure driving on the Abu Dhabi dunes (they're taller and steeper than Dubai's).
Price: $160 with hotel transfer
For: thrill seekers who want to be behind the wheel, not in the passenger seat.
VIP Safari (Private)
Personal 4x4 + personal guide. You choose the time, pace, and route. Maximum privacy.
For: couples, families with small children, anyone who prefers private over group tours.
What to Wear
Light clothing — t-shirt and shorts in summer, light pants and a hoodie in winter (the desert gets cool after sunset — around 15-18°C in January-February).
Shoes — sneakers or sandals. Closed shoes are better in the sand, but many people go barefoot in the camp.
Don't bring: expensive items that can't handle sand. Sand will be everywhere — that's part of the experience.
Safety
In over 10 years of operation, TripUAE has had zero serious incidents on desert safaris. All our drivers are licensed by the RTA (Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority), complete annual training, and drive specially equipped 4x4s with reinforced suspension.
Seatbelts are mandatory during dune bashing. Pregnant visitors and those with back problems should skip the dune bashing — but can go straight to camp and enjoy the rest of the program.
Best Time to Go
Best season: October through March. Temperature 20-30°C — comfortable all day and evening.
Summer (June – September): Safaris still run, but the desert can hit 45°C+. The 4x4 is air-conditioned, but it's hot outside. Upside: the most vivid sunsets and almost no crowds.
Time of day: Evening safari (with sunset) is the most beautiful. Morning safari is the most comfortable temperature-wise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can children go? Yes. Kids 3 and older can join dune bashing (with seatbelt). Camp and dinner are suitable for all ages. Children under 3 — free.
How many people per group? Usually 5-6 people per 4x4. The camp hosts 50-100 people total, but you sit at separate tables.
Is there alcohol? Most camps don't serve alcohol. But soft drinks, tea, coffee, and water are unlimited and free.
Will I get motion sick? Some people do. If you usually get carsick, tell your driver beforehand — they'll drive more gently. Sitting in the front seat also helps.
What if the weather is bad? Safaris run in all weather except sandstorms (extremely rare). If canceled — full refund.
